2.17.0 · Record Right from the Home Screen

The August 27, 2026 update adds two Android home screen widgets, plus more reliable backup and PDF export.

This version

What's new in 2.17.0

Home screen recording widget

Adjust the current output value by ±10, choose whether it is rising, holding, or falling, and log it — without opening the app.

Quick-record widget

Start a temporary record, or jump straight to symptoms, daily life, a note on how you feel right now, or rating a moment — right from the home screen.

More reliable backup and PDF export

Improved how reliably JSON backups and PDF reports save to the Download folder on Android.

Widget records feed into the app

Anything logged from a widget carries over into today's record and graph the next time you open the app.

Install

Add a widget to your home screen

  1. Update the Medication Diary app to the latest version, then open it once.
  2. Press and hold an empty spot on your phone’s home screen.
  3. Tap "Widgets," then find "Parkinson’s Medication Record."
  4. Choose either the "Medication Record" or "Medication Quick Record" widget and add it to your home screen.
  5. If needed, press and hold the widget to adjust its position and size.

Use

How to use the recording widget

  1. Adjust the output value Use the -10 / +10 buttons on the recording widget to match the current output value. This step alone does not yet save the record.
  2. Choose a direction Pick whichever is closest to how things feel right now: ↑ rising / = holding / ↓ falling.
  3. Confirm the record Tapping "Record" saves the current output value and direction as a pending record. Opening the app afterward folds it into today’s record.
  4. Use quick record The separate quick-record widget saves a temporary record instantly, or jumps straight to the symptoms, daily life, note, or rating screens in the app.

What the two widgets do

Medication Record

Log output and direction quickly

The current output value, ±10 adjustment, Record button, Open App, and rising/holding/falling all in one place.

Medication Quick Record

Jump straight to symptoms, daily life, or a note

A temporary record saves instantly, while symptoms, daily life, a note on how you feel right now, and rating a moment each open directly to that screen in the app.

If the widget doesn't show up

First check that the app is updated to the latest version on the Play Store, open it once, then check the home screen widget list again.

If a widget from before the update is still there, try removing just that old widget and adding it again. To keep your records safe, we don't recommend deleting the app itself as a troubleshooting step.

Widgets are an Android feature. Depending on your phone's manufacturer and home screen settings, the widget-adding screen may look slightly different.
